GET INVOLVED

Larch Hills Nordic Ski Club is built, maintained and supported by volunteers. Their time, skills and enthusiasm are what make our club—and our trails—so special.

There are many ways to get involved, whether you want to share skills you already have, learn something new, meet people who love the outdoors, or simply give back to the community.

There’s always something to do: trail work, coaching, track setting, light facility maintenance, helping with events—and, of course, the old standby: making hot chocolate for Jackrabbits!

Interested in helping out? We’d love to hear from you. Every contribution, big or small, helps keep Larch Hills thriving and is truly appreciated.

Firewood Crew

When you walk into the toasty, warm chalet this winter, you can thank the LHNS Firewood Crew – led by LHNS Director Pauline Waelti for the hours of splitting and stacking firewood each year. There’s always room for more helpers. Want to volunteer?

Lantern Ski Crew

The Lantern Ski is a much-loved one-night tradition at Larch Hills that has been lighting up winter for more than 25 years. Each year, 216 kerosene lanterns are carefully cleaned, filled and placed along a 6.5 km route, creating a magical trail of warm light through the snowy forest. The lanterns are prepared in the fall, ready for this special event held between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Want to help make the magic happen?

Parent Volunteers

Our Bunnies and Jackrabbit programs run on volunteer power, and there’s a role for everyone!

  • Coach Bunnies, Levels 1–4, Waffles or Explorers
  • Sub-coach when extra help is needed
  • Be a Parent Helper to support a coach
  • Lend a hand with lesson-day logistics, Ready Set Ski, Fun Day and more

Whether you have lots of time or just a little, we can find a way for you to help without overwhelming your schedule.

Interested in coaching but not sure where to start? We’ll help you get set up, including answering questions about training, requirements and certifications.

School Hosts

School Hosts provide an opportunity for School District #83 elementary school students and their teachers to gain familiarity with the Larch Hills trails through the LHNS School Ski Host Program. Classes visit Larch Hills in January and February to enjoy cross-county skiing or snowshoeing.

Track Setters

The Larch Hills trail system is groomed by a dedicated crew of equipment operators. Our Prinoth Bison and Small-Equipment crews are out throughout the week during the early morning hours keeping our trails in the best shape possible.

We’re looking for volunteers with:

  • Mechanical interest and equipment operating skills
  • A team-oriented approach

Join the crew and help create the great skiing experience Larch Hills is known for!

Safety Hosts

Safety Hosts help ensure LHNS members and guests receive a prompt and appropriate response when a skier or snowshoer is injured—primarily, but not exclusively, on Larch Hills track-set trails.

Safety Hosts are trained to use the Club’s snowmobiles, rescue toboggans, SKED and full-body splint, providing essential support when an incident occurs on the trails.

Trail Hosts

Over the Christmas season, our Trail Hosts are out at Larch Hills to welcome members and guests and help make everyone’s visit enjoyable.

Whether you’re new to Larch Hills, looking for trail or conditions information, or simply have a question, our hosts are there to provide information, offer directions and help you get the most out of your time on the trails.

It’s a great way to connect with fellow skiers, welcome visitors and help create the friendly community spirit that makes Larch Hills special.
