THURSDAYS 10AM

Thursday Geezers

The Thursday Geezers are a group of active skiers—mostly retired men and women, many of whom are LHNS members—who get together during the ski season for Thursday morning adventures.

The group meets at 10:00 am at the Larch Hills Chalet/stadium area.

The goal is simple: explore! Over the course of the season – the group will ski as many of the Larch Hills groomed and ungroomed trails as possible. Outings are generally a 50/50 mix of groomed and single-track trails, starting with easier routes early in the season and progressing as conditions and fitness allow. A typical day will see the group heading out on groomed trails and return on single track, much of which is ungroomed.

Most outings take approximately 3–4 hours.

What You’ll Need

  • Intermediate classic ski skills and moderate fitness are recommended.
  • Skis around 59 mm wide work well in our set tracks while also providing some flotation for light backcountry skiing.
  • Poles with large baskets are essential for ungroomed single track and deeper snow.
  • Metal-edged skis are welcome, particularly when trails are hard or icy.
  • A folding saw or loppers can be useful, as winter storms occasionally leave branches or small trees across the trails.
  • Carry the usual winter emergency supplies, including fire starter, food, water and extra clothing to keep you warm. Many of the single-track trails are difficult to access in an emergency.

Be prepared for wilderness skiing. Larch Hills single-track trails can be remote, and conditions can change quickly.
