The Larch Hills Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet is considered one of the premier loppets in Western Canada. Part of the Pacific Northwest Loppet Series, this 32 km competitive CLASSIC Loppet (no skate skiing!) takes skiers on a challenging single loop of beautifully track-set trails, including sections at higher elevations.

The RKS Loppet has something for skiers of all ages and abilities. Skiers looking for a shorter challenge can choose the 10 km or 17 km courses, while skiers aged 17 and under ski selected portions of the competitive course. Youngest skiers, ages 2–7, have their own 1 km and 2 km courses and a separate finish line, making the Loppet a fun and welcoming event for all ages and skiing abilities.

Sponsors

The Larch Hills Ski Club hosted our very first ‘Larch Hills Marathon’ in January 1985. The loppet name was changed in 1987 to honour and remember Reino Keski-Salmi, a founding member of our ski club and an international cross-country ski champion.

Reino was twice a Canadian champion and also a North American marathon champion. Tragically, Reino died in a helicopter crash during the summer of 1985 while working with a forest fire-fighting crew.
